Shankar Chawla- President 2011-12
Warm Greetings to all of you.
Let me at outset Congratulate the outgoing President Rajendra for the great year 2010-11. Wish Rajendra, Swati and your family All The Best for your future endeavors.
With humility i accept the post of president of this prestigious Club. It is indeed an honor to be a President of such a vibrant club. I take this responsibility and I assure you, to do to the best of my abilities. I will ensure that the club reaches a higher level.
Friends, it is a very special year for the club been Silver Jubilee year, 25 years of dedicated service to community.
25 years ago when club was started by Charter members and today there is a huge Change in the life of community in needy slums of Deonar, Shivaji nagar, Bhaigan wadi, Govandi and many places. Shivaji nagar was one of the worst effected Polio areas in India. Today it is free from Polio. Thanks to late Rtn Jayant Raje.
14 schools were provided water purifiers with new water storage in schools.
Covering over 36 Villages, in and around Karjat provided 30 Bore Wells, Sanitation, 38 community toilet blocks, one check dam, Public library, Mahila co-op udyog centre for women empowerment, Vocational Training, Education and Health Services.
We appreciate the dedicated efforts by Charter Members, Past Presidents and Members of Rotary Club of Deonar. They have change and made difference to the life of needy community to have better place to live.
We are fortunate to have stalwart past presidents with us, they are always there to guide, motivate, encourage, support and are readily available for help.
Projects and Plans for the year 2011-12
We have bigger and bolder projects to raise funds with ROTOCROSS, a motor sport event which was started last year and is happening on 29th Jan 2012. We promise to ourselves to make a Great Brand. God willing we shall make it happen.
The entire fund regenerated from Event will be utilized for Health care, Clean Drinking water, Sanitation, Preventable Diseases and Polio.
Our dream to build 2 storey School building at RCC in silver jubilee year is another Mega event happening and would require lots of help from all of you.
Silver jubiliee Celebrations: Release of Souvenir and Club History book, Vocational Service Awards – will be held on 10th March 2012 at Fine Arts Chembur. The profit regenerated would go to Charity.
Medical Projects: Post Burns Functional Deformities Surgeries- 3rd year of existence, along with National Burns Centre and Operation Smile
.
Musculo-skeleton (Polio) Correctives Surgeries will be conducted from 23 to 25th Sep 2011 in village Gadchiroli near Nagpur. Jointly with Rotary club of Coventry U.K.
Nutrition for adolescent Girls – Ongoing project in Unaided Schools of in and around Deonar.
Not only Nutrition but through counseling and building up the positive mental growth of a child.
Dental Camp and early detection of oral Cancer in Slums of Shivaji Nagar and Deonar.
AIDS Awareness, Cataract Surgeries, Medical Camps, Cancer Detection Camps, and all the ongoing projects
DISHA for vocational training for young and Women Empowerment shall be continued this year.
Shanti Orphanage at Panvel: Mission Shanti
a very touching project for education and care for 28 Children along with Rotractor Club of Deonar. We plan to take up further this year by adopting a guardian to each child.
Darti Ke lal: A war memorial at Thane.
Felicitation of the Soldiers families who have given their life for the country.
This year we will take up to greater level.
Our collaboration with NGOs and would like to recognized their support Apanalaya, National Burns Centre, Operation Smile, K.B. IYE Student:
Club is hosting Inbound IYE Student Antonia Dist 1940 from Berlin Germany and Outbound Nisarg Gadkari to France.
Rotary Friendship Exchange:
From our club Family visited South Africa on Friendship Exchange
Club will also host family from South Africa in this year for Rotary Friendship Exchange.
InterDistrict:
Dist 3240 Gauhati and Dist 3140 Mumbai completed successfully cleft palate surgeries along with Operation Smile, from 14 -24th July at Gauhati. Club members Lead by Rtn Cdr Jana and Rtn Vishnu Kamath.
You have made us proud.
Club will Host Leadership Seminar on 18th March 2012.
MEMBERSHIP
we propose to increase 2 lady members and 3 professionals below 45 years with diverse classification, age and gender.
FELLOWSHIP:
Apart from family nights. Club also will have Family Get together on the occasion of Silver jubilee Wedding Anniversary and Silver Jubilee Ganesh Ustav.
Over 25 delegates from our club will be attending the RI convention at Bangkok.
Our club will deploy all resources in terms of expertise, manpower and raising funds and will walk an extra mile to make an impact in these areas.
RI President Kalyan Banerjee has made emphasis to focus on Family, Continuity and Change.
It’s very important and challenging to balance Personal, Family, Vocation, Social and Spiritual components of life.
Unconditional Love, Care, Concern shall remain forever to Family, CONTINUE to do Good, will bring CHANGE to evolve ourselves and others which will bring Peace, Health, Happiness and Harmony in the world.

Profile : Rtn Dr. Shankar Chawla joined Rotary in year-1996. Paul Harries Fellow.
He is a senior Holistic Homoeopathic Physician over 26 years in Chembur, Mumbai. He has graduated from prestigious Smt CMP Homoeopathic Medical College Mumbai in 1983.
He is Post Graduate MD in Homoeopathy with PGD in Preventive Health Care from Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad.
He was Secretary for the Club in year 1999-2000.
To his credit are number of Community and Service projects .
He has held various positions as a Director.
Initiated Homoeopathic Mobile Clinic (full size Bus) in Slums at Shivaji Nagar Deonar and volunteered to ensure the smooth running of the project.
Have Volunteered services for Polio Corrective Surgeries in remote villages in other states.
He has also been a co-convenor for District Seminars.
Instrumental in forming Senior Citizen Club of Deonar.
Awarded Best Rotarian of the Year Twice.
Highest Individual Citation Award from Rotary International in four Avenues of Service.

Profession: MSc (Botany) Delhi University, Dip in fashion designing, Part time Beautician with advanced courses in Beautician of International repute.
