ROTARY YEAR 2005-2006
PRESIDENT – V. KANNAN
CLUB SERVICE:
- Total of 50 meetings in the year– different speakers, different themes
- Family Nite every month,
- Hosted GSE in-coming and out-going teams,
- Charter Nite on a Ferry, Bulletin every monththe Best trophy Club Service and Club Bulletin.Club Jackets, Club Photo Identity Cards.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
- Conducted two Free Medical check up camp and Free Medicines donated for the flood affected at Chembur Camp and Deonar.
- Revamped and repaired Deonar Maternity Centre affected by floods.
- Conducted - 120 cataract surgeries through five camps.
- 321 polio corrective surgeries, first time on a large scale by RC of Deonar - camps at Barshi and Osmanabad.
- Conducted blood donation camp at Joy hospital - 58 bottles of blood collected.
- Project Swayam Siddha - Project for the Special Children- Cricket at Chembur Gymkhana graced by cricket, film, legal, and media celebrities - wide coverage in telemedia. Participated by special children ( Hearing impaired, Speech impaired visual Impaired children) of 50 schools in mumbai and three matches conducted.
- Donation of 3 computers to Nutan Vidya Mandir.
- Inaugurated Vermi-composit pits in Alm Ghatla village by Municipal Councillor.
- Successfully conducted RYLA at Lonavala - 36 participants.
- Successfully conducted RYPEN at St Gregorious School.
- Massive rally by Rotarians led by "Mascot" Elephant, with bands from St Gregorious School and Lezim band from Nutan Vidya Mandir School, starting from Shivaji Circle and culminating at Chembur Garden via Chembur camp - as finale of week-long Rotary Service week under which various community service projects undertaken by club.
- "Nutrition Awareness" in school going adolescent girls - more than 1200 girls from various schools were examined and nutrition supplements provided free of cost.
- Under Green and Clean Mumbai Campaign, an Island spot adopted and beautified and inaugurated by the DG near Shivaji Circle.
- RCC Villages;
o Inaugurated Women's Co Operative Society in Shelu.
o New RCC - RCC Kalamb was applied and charter received and RCC Kalamb adopted.
o General Medical Camp Conducted and breast feeding awareness and general health awareness given
to women of Shelu by Inner wheel members.
o Free Clothes and Books provided to Shelu and Nandigaon villages.
o Legal Literacy Seminar for Adivasis and Tribals conducted at Shelu village by Honorable Justice Palshikar
of Mumbai high court; benefitted 300 Adivasis and tribals - free booklets on legal rights distributed in
Marathi language.
o Distributed 300 Slumber kits to school going children of Kalamb village.
o Inaugurated 2 bore-wells at Kindergarden School at Shelu and Kalamb Village Chowk.
Vocational service:
- Vocational tour for school children of St Gregorious School to Sumangal press to get a first hand experience on newspaper printing.
- Guidance Seminar conducted at Nutan Vidya Mandir and Kumud Vidya Mandir.
International service:
- Hosted the Rotary Foundation Seminar at SNDT’s college as lead club with 16 other clubs as co hosts.
- GSE Team Leader Jhankar Gadkari selected and led team.
- One GSE team member and one alternate team member hosted by RC Deonar.
- Two IYE long-term student – Marion Lesur and Mari Makela for a period of one year by our club families.
- Two Students from our club participated/hosted in IYE short term to brazil.
- IYE Long-term student to France hosted from our club to France.
- Successfully hosted “World Understanding and Peace Forum”at CK Nayadu Hall, Cricket Club of india , Theme – Bilateral Relations through Trade- Eminent guest speakers from German , Italian and Korean embassies graced/spoke in this forum.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION:
- TRF annual giving of 6,000/- US$ - promised and achieved.
- Applied for 2,000 US$ Joint Matching Grant for providing 6 seater toilet block at Kalamb village and received approval.
- Applied for DSG – District Simplified Grant – for US 2,000$ for constructing chemistry lab at Nutan Vidya Mandir school and received the grant.
- Applied for major matching grant with matching partner Zoeter Meer Club of Holland for 1,00,000/- € to the RI for approval.
CONCLUSION:
- Adjudged and Awarded ”Platinum Club” - one of the top five clubs in entire RI Dist 3140 for highest number of projects executed under various avenues of service .
- Applied and received the highest number of awards and trophies from the district at district conference totalling – 13 trophies highest ever by RC of Deonar
